RSHE – (Relationships & Sex Education)

RSHE – (Relationshps and Sex Education) is a key component of wider student personal development at Aston Manor Academy.  Our intention is to prepare students with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society.  In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these so that they have good mental health and well-being.

Our RSHE curriculum develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills which will enable children to access the wider curriculum and prepare them to be a global citizen now and in their future roles within a global community. It promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life. RSHE education helps pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. From making responsible decisions and manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up.  It also helps young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. RSHE education also helps pupils to develop skills and aptitudes – like teamwork, communication, and resilience – that are crucial to navigating the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. It recognises the risks and issues children experience today. The focus of sex and relationships education must be to equip children and young people to make safe choices, navigate the online world with a critical eye and help them to understand where to go for support.
