Introduction
Our children and young people have the right to be protected from harm, abuse and neglect.
Our children and young people have the right to be protected from harm, abuse and neglect. As a school, if we have any concerns about a young person, we will act appropriately and seek advice. There are clear systems and processes in place to enable identification of needs. We will involve parents in this process, unless we have been advised not to by the police or children’s services.
Operation Encompass is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and all police forces. Aston Manor Academy, like other schools in the region, will be told prior to the start of the next school day when police have attended an incident of domestic abuse where a child or young person who attends our school has been involved in the incident.
Safeguarding online
We will do everything we can to educate pupils to recognise risks online and know what to do if they do not feel safe. This includes within the family home.
There is advice and guidance for children in Years 7 – 11 in their student planner. In addition, we regularly underpin online safety within the curriculum and activities within our school.
Aston Manor Academy’s Smooth Wall system also keeps children safe online, while allowing them to browse freely.

Wellbeing & attendance

Student wellbeing
& staying safe
We want all pupils to feel safe and happy and have a member of staff that they can talk to if they have any concerns or worries.
We will ensure that children have the knowledge to know how to stay safe, including online.
As well as having a form tutor, there are other staff that pupils may wish to talk to including pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, youth worker, mental health lead and a student counsellor.
The student planner and diary provides helpful advice and information too.
If a pupil or young person does not wish to talk to a member of staff about a concern, they can leave a message on the SHARP report page. This allows anyone to report an incident anonymously and without fear.
